Florida Key Fishing Guide
Your Florida Key Fishing Vacation Begins Here!

"The Keys are a little taste of fishing paradise - I can't wait to come back next year!"

Aaahhhh....The Keys.

Just those two, little, words bring up the most wonderful visions in your mind's eye, don't they? A sparkling, gem-like scattering of small islands below the tip of the Florida peninsula, the Florida Keys have got to be the crown jewels of fishing in Florida!

This site's affable co-owner, John, when he was a younger guy with no responsibilities (yet), was well-known for hitching a ride down south periodically. He would come down with what we jokingly refer to these days as "a case of the wanderfoot", and off he would go, hankering for some serious fishing. He inevitably ended up in the beautiful emerald waters of the Florida Keys, looking for another fish story to bring back home...

....He was never disappointed, either! Some of the top fishing spots in Florida are found in the Keys!

The Keys have a special place in our hearts, for spectacular scenery, rewarding weather, friendly fishing charters and locals, and of course, always, absolutely supreme sport fishing!!

Sport fishing in the Florida Keys is simply outstanding! You're also certain to find the best recreational, competitive, light tackle, fly, deep sea, surf, and other types of fishing, all available in Florida's Keys.

There's something for every fisher - some like to go way, waaaayyyy out for deepsea sport fishing; others prefer to stick closer inshore for surf casting, and pier fishing. Still other anglers like to explore the flats with their own boats, while less-experienced anglers might hire a superb Florida Key fishing guide to maximize their fishing experience. Florida Keys fishing can make the most of your vacation dollars, whatever your fishing style or budget!

Ready? Let's explore Florida Keys fishing!

The Florida Keys are found in the Atlantic Ocean's most richly diverse areas. Why? The Gulf of Mexico to the north, together with the Atlantic Ocean to the south of the Florida Keys, create a kind of island sandwich. With the warm Gulf Stream current venturing close by, the waters surrounding the Keys are home to more species of fish than anywhere else in the Atlantic.

Key Largo fishing

Florida Keys fishing begins in Key Largo. Closest to the Florida mainland - only a 90-minute drive from Miami International Airport - Key Largo fishing offers up supreme flats and backcountry fishing for both the novice and the veteran angler.

Key Largo is just minutes from Florida Key offshore fishing, too, on the Atlantic side.

Do you love scuba diving or snorkeling? Why not combine the two sports on your Florida Key fishing vacation? After you've enjoyed your Key Largo fishing adventures, you can choose from 25 dive sites and many snorkeling locations. Key Largo is also home to the only underwater park in the continental United States!

Marathon fishing

One of the best Florida Keys vacations is found at Marathon! Known affectionately by the locals as "The Heart of the Keys" , you just might lose your heart in Marathon, too, if you're into tarpon fishing! Marathon lays claim to THE best Florida Key tarpon fishing.

Offshore fishing from Marathon is done over an underwater platform known as the West Hump, which boasts depths of 1,100 to 480 feet. You can hire a Florida Key Fishing guide, or charter, to take you to where the fishing is red-hot!

Some of the best fishing spots in the Florida Keys are found in the waters surrounding Marathon; and if that's not enough, nearby Bahia Honda State Park is a short 15-minute drive south of Marathon.

Fishing Islamorada Florida

Florida Key fishing at Islamorada is nonstop, very productive, and spectacular! Islamorada is known as the sportfishing capital of the world, and is home to many world-class fishing tournaments!

Islamorada is home to the world-class Islamorada Sailfish Tournament in late November-early December. If tournaments aren't your style, there are many fine Florida Key fishing guides available for hire; you'll enjoy deepsea fishing for mahi-mahi or dolphin fish (among the most beautiful, flashy fighters, and tasty, too) or even shark!

Florida Keys dolphin fishing is very popular at Islamorada!

For the angler that likes to relax and enjoy the sunset while shore fishing, it's true that the Florida Keys may not have the large, roomy beaches found elsewhere in mainland Florida. However, Islamorada does have a number of smaller, more private beaches that are nestled within the shade of surrounding palm trees for you to enjoy while surfcasting.

Key West fishing

Key West is the last major key is the Florida Keys. This means that it's just a short hop out to deepsea fishing, from Key West out to where the Gulf stream and the Atlantic waters meet. Again, these waters are said to be home to the widest variety of fish in the Atlantic Ocean. There's plenty of Florida Keys fishing to choose from!

A good Key West fishing charter is always available; for flats, backcountry, wreck fishing, fishing around the reefs, or some serious flyfishing action, your money is well-spent on a Key West fishing guide!

Like Islamorada, Key West has many fishing tournaments; one of the most notable is the World Sailfish Championship.

Sunset and sunrise in the Keys are breathtakingly beautiful.

Of course, there are many other, smaller, islands in the Florida Keys chain; the four discussed here are considered to be the top-notch fishing destinations for fishing, Florida Keys style!

We hope you've found our Florida Key fishing guide to be useful; drop us a line and tell us how we can improve your fishing vacation to the Keys!
