Florida Charter Boat...

Prices

Florida charter boat prices are variable. What's a fair price? How much can you expect to pay to book a charter boat?

Depending on various factors such as the experience of the charter captain, the type of fishing you select, the location of your fishing vacation destination, and the length of the fishing charter trip, you'll find the prices for Florida fishing charters can cost as little as $35 for a couple of hours' fishing time, to as much as $1,200 - or more! - for a full day's fishing.

A half-day charter boat fishing trip usually refers to 4 hours total time, from departure to the boat's return to the marina. A full-day is a full 8 hour fishing trip, again starting from the point of departure to the return time at the docks. Some Florida boat charter captains offer packages with shorter or longer schedules than these; check with the charter captain for all the details of his or her schedules.

Party boats

The least expensive type of charter boat in Florida to fish from is the party boat. Since the cost is shared among 20-30 people, you can fish for a couple of hours for as little as $35 per person. While the most economical of Florida charters, it's also the most crowded, with strangers you might not want to associate with otherwise. Still, it gets you out in the water, and fishing with strangers isn't all that bad!

Flats boats

Moving up to a more private charter boat, prices for half-day trips in the smaller skiffs used for flats fishing average around $200-$400 to hire the boat and fishing guide for a half-day, and upwards of around $400-$500 for a full 8-hour day.

Light tackle boats

A light tackle boat charter costs a little more than a flats boat as it holds more passengers and is better equipped. Expect to pay around $500-600 for a half-day, and $600-$900 for an 8-hour fishing trip for a charter boat that holds up to 4 passengers.

If the charter boat holds more than passengers - up to 6 anglers - expect to be charged more than the prices listed for smaller charter boats.

You may find a light tackle boat charter captain that offers shorter sunset or sunrise cruises for around $350-$400.

Offshore boats

Other than Florida yacht charters or houseboat rentals, the most costly private charter boat is the deep sea, or offshore charter. The boats generally hold up to six passengers, and charter packages can vary a great deal. Depending on the location, half-day offshore fishing trips are priced from $450-$600, and full day trips may range in price from $900-$1200.

A Word of Advice....

All the prices listed here are estimates only! Boat charter prices vary a great deal by seasons and the boat's home port location, too. Booking a fishing charter in an off-season time is generally less expensive than the busy summer fishing vacations months.

Our advice? Shop around, ask questions of potential charter captains. Some charter boat captains offer discounts for multiple-day bookings. Be sure to ask your potential charter boat captain about discounts if you're planning on fishing in the same waters for more than a day, you might save a little money!

Except for party boats (which charge a set fee per person) Florida charter boat costs are simply for the boat and the services of the captain and crew, no matter the number of anglers. Please click here for additional discussions on the types of boats used in charter boat fishing in Florida.

Fishing charters in Florida sometimes have a couple of additional charges besides the price to hire the boat and crew. Tipping of the captain and mate is customary and often expected. Gratuities are in addition to the boat charter prices. Be sure to ask the charter captain about gratuities that might be added to the price for the charter boat package - don't be surprised at the end of the day when a tip is expected!
