Charter Boat Fishing:
The Boats

Charter boat fishing is exciting, and uncomplicated, too. A typical Florida fishing charter boat comes in one of several sizes, and is used for specific purposes, too.

Our goal here is to acquaint you with the basic boat types used by Florida charter boat captains.

There are three basic kinds of fishing boat charters in Florida that you can hire when planning your Florida fishing vacations.

Each boat has a specific price range, that's determined by several factors.

The charter captains can tell you full details about fishing packages.

The charter in Florida you select also depends upon the type of fishing you're wanting to do, too.

Flats boats

The smallest of charter boat fishing vessels, the flats boat usually accomodate only 2 anglers, plus the fishing guide.

This type of boat is used primarily for sight fishing for fish that spook easily, like the bonefish. The flats boat, or skiff, is fit with a poling platform so your guide can get a better view to spot the desired fish. A flats skiff can also be used for fishing the backcountry waters of Florida Bay.

Light tackle boats

The most versatile of charter boats used, the light tackle boat is a little bigger than a flats boat. There's no poling platform like the smaller flats skiff, and the light tackle boat can carry up to 4 anglers.

Charter boat fishing using these powerful center-console boats covers several types of fishing. Light tackle boats are the boats most often used for backcountry fishing but are not the right choice for flats fishing. Light tackle boats are also used for some offshore or deepsea fishing, wrecks fishing, and reef fishing, too.

Florida Bass fishing is most often done using a light tackle boat, too.

Offshore boats

A somewhat larger version of the light tackle boats, deep sea or offshore charter boats can go further offshore, for longer periods of deep sea fishing. Deep sea charter boat fishing can accommodate up to 6 anglers.

A Little More About Charter Fishing Boats...

No matter what variety of Florida charter you're searching for, you can generally hire charter fishing boats for as little as a couple of hours, a half-day, or full day, too. Some charter boat fishing captains offer muliple-day packages. Be sure to ask your charter captain for specific details of fishing packages offered.

Where do you find fishing guides? Resorts and hotels often include charter boat fishing trips, setting out from their own private docks, as part of a vacation package. To begin your hotel search, may we say that we like TripAdvisor's website, with unbiased reviews of Florida fishing vacations destinations, written by fellow travelers. Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about hotels in Florida.

Short on time or funds? Try Party boats

Not your typical fishing charters in Florida, party boats are much bigger, and sometimes rowdier, than those used by the private fishing charters in Florida.

Party boats hold from 20 - 30 anglers on average. The costs to fish aboard a party boat, compared to private fishing charters, are much less per person. Party boats can also be booked for corporate events, too.

Some party boats offer overnight fishing excursions such as from Key West to the Dry Tortugas.

No matter what kind of fishing action you're seeking during your Florida fishing vacations, Florida fishing charters offer up the most memorable excitement that you won't find anywhere else - except in the Fishing Capitol of the U.S.A!
